Council History

Following Article 97 of the constitution which proclaimed in July 17, 1948, the Local Government Act (Article 32 of Korean Law) proclaimed in July 4, 1949 was revised on December 15 in the same year. Based on this revision, an election for local government was planned to be held in December 1950. However, such a plan was postponed because of the Korean War. On April 25, 1952, the first members of Bucheon-gun council were finally elected.

In 1961, local council was broken up by the military government. After Bucheon-gun was elevated as a city on July 1, 1973, Regulations for Electing Local Council Members was enacted in December 1990. Finally, on March 26, 1991, Bucheon City executed an election for local council members, and the local council was restored for 30 years. The 1st Office of Bucheon City Council was newly organized on April 15, 1991.
